Learn about Puerto Montt's rich German heritage and experience the beauty of its ancient forests. The giant Alerce tree is native to Southern Chile and due to its ever increasing value, it is now on the verge of extinction. It takes hundreds and thousands of years for the tree to develop its unique form. Today you’ll have the opportunity to stand up-close to some of these giants in the Lahuen Ñadi Forest, during an approximately one-hour eco walk through stunning landscapes.

Drive to Nueva Braunau and visit the Colonization Museum, located in the rustic barn of an old farm. It displays a private collection of settlers’ items, some of which have never been available to the public before. Is a great way to learn about the life of the German settlers who colonized this area around the turn of the 20th century. You’ll also make a short stop in Puerto Varas, with its wooden colonial homes built by German immigrants. Take a stroll in the main square for an incredible view of Lake Llanquihue and Osorno Volcano and visit the handicraft market here.
